New OS 3.0 operating system and iPhone 3 GS with up to 32 GB unveiled
News from the Apple Developer Conference
On 8th June at the Developer Conference in San Francisco, Apple unveiled the long awaited third-generation iPhone and the new OS 3.0 iPhone operating system. The new iPhone should be available in stores as from 19th June. The new operating system is also due to be released this summer.
Three variants of the new iPhone will be available: an 8-Gigabyte version for 99 Dollars, a 16-GB version for 199 Dollars and a 32-GB variant for 299 Dollars. All models have a 3 megapixel camera, auto-focus functionality for taking photos, a video camera, voice control and a compass. The new iPhone OS 3.0 is also already installed on them with 100 new functions and 1000 new API routines. The new iPhone 3 GS also stands out with a significantly higher speed and is thus the fastest iPhone ever.
The new operating system shines with an array of functions which users and developers had originally looked for in vain, including a clipboard, the Spotlight system-wide search for programs, appointments, emails, notes and pieces of music or the option of upgrading the device to become a navigation system.
Thanks to iPhone OS 3.0, all Apple programs can now cope with landscape format which the screen displays when the iPhone is rotated. It is also now possible to use the iPhone as a modem and a fully-fledged navigation system.
iPhone users are due to receive the update free of charge in the summer; for the iPod touch it will cost 9.95 US Dollars.
